These components can be individual resistors (components with two legs) or networks of multiple resistors (components with more than two legs).
Resistor networks
Resistor networks are devices containing multiple resistors. Typically, they have one terminal common to all the resistors in the device, but they can contain completely isolated resistors.
These components must be fitted the correct way around. Pin one is indicated by a dot on the package, as illustrated.
8 x 1k resistors
Typical marking will include the resistance value in the form: 102
8 x 10k resistors
Typical marking will include the resistance value in the form: 103
8 x 100k resistors
Typical marking will include the resistance value in the form: 104
Resistors, Carbon film, Axial, 0.25W, +/-5%
Individual resistors can be fitted either way around as they are not polarity dependent.
Low cost, carbon film resistors are used when there are no special requirements, such as high power.
